What Can Cause the Teeth to Be Covered Up with Excess Gum Tissue?
This condition is often down to genetics, but sometimes it may be due to other health conditions. It can sometimes be caused by taking certain prescription medicines such as those used to control high blood pressure.
Treatment is quick and easy, and simply requires the excess gum tissue to be removed. You don’t need to worry about having too much gum tissue removed as our dentists are highly experienced in this procedure. It is carried out using a local anaesthetic to ensure you remain completely comfortable throughout the treatment. Occasionally gum contouring may be carried out in conjunction with other treatments, such as braces in Kent. While orthodontic treatment can be used to correct crooked teeth, gum contouring can help perfect a newly straightened smile. Sometimes it may be necessary to reshape the teeth and to actually remove some of the bone at the base of the tooth. In this case the tooth is likely to need restoring through the placement of a crown, or through the use of dental veneers.
