Dental implants at a glance
If you are missing one or more teeth and have lost confidence in your smile, dental implants could be the answer. After all, a missing tooth won’t just affect your appearance; it will affect the way you feel. You’ll also be worried about oral hygiene and your ability to chew without discomfort, so tooth implants may well make perfect sense.
Dental implants are one of the best and most effective ways of replacing lost teeth. By affixing a titanium screw to the bone at the site of the lost tooth, your dentist can place a permanent restoration into your mouth, which will not loosen or fall out with use. It’s important to replace missing teeth as soon as possible as gaps in the teeth can cause the rest of the dentition to move very slowly, causing changes to the muscles in your face and discomfort over time.
Our highly skilled implantologists at Parrock Dental can help you decide which implant will be best for you, after assessing your dental needs at an initial consultation.
The benefits of dental implants
Bone grafts for dental implants
Dental implants are strong and will enable you to eat comfortably, but for best results, there needs to be enough bone to fix the implant securely in place. Although only a few millimetres of healthy bone is required, some patients don’t have enough, so bone grafts provide the answer.
Bone grafts provide a secure foundation to attach your dental implant. It’s a simple surgical procedure that builds up missing bone in your jaw. This is with bone taken from another site in your mouth or body, bone from a donor, or a man-made material or protein designed to stimulate your body into producing new bone cells.
Generally, bone grafts take a few months to heal and integrate with your existing jaw bone.sin which is bonded to the tooth

Tom’s dental implant success story
Tom came to Parrock Dental hoping to improve the look of his discoloured teeth. He had damaged both front teeth playing rugby once as a teenager and then again recently, causing discolouration of one tooth, and the crown on the other to keep falling out. He wanted a fixed solution, without being left with a gap in the meantime. He opted to have Same Day dental implants and was really happy with the results.
“I was REALLY HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE, it is a very pleasant place to be. Rik was very friendly, he talked me through all the steps and what would happen in regards to my treatment. I FELT VERY CONFIDENT.”
“Everyone I know has seen my new smile and said it’s made an amazing difference to my confidence. I used to smile with closed lips and NOW I SMILE A FULL SMILE!”

Dental implant FAQS
WHEN MIGHT I NEED A DENTAL IMPLANT?
Implants are used to replace a missing tooth, or to replace a tooth that needs extraction. If a gap is left from a missing tooth, not only can it look unsightly but the teeth on either side can tip into it over time, causing problems with the bite and, in some cases, gum disease. Whilst partial dentures can be used to replace missing teeth, implants are a long-term, fixed solution.
IS FITTING A DENTAL IMPLANT UNCOMFORTABLE?
As with all dental care, modern techniques are quite comfortable. The initial part of fitting an implant requires surgery to insert the root. This is usually performed with a local anaesthetic but we also offer safe sedation if preferred. It is not uncommon to feel some soreness or swelling following the procedure, but this should quickly ease.
CAN MY DENTAL IMPLANTS BE AFFECTED BY GUM DISEASE?
Yes, the gum surrounding the implant is the same as that around your original teeth, so gum disease could occur if your oral hygiene is lacking. You need to maintain good brushing, flossing and regular dental hygiene appointments.
