How does teeth whitening work?

Teeth whitening enables you to improve your smile simply and effectively, by gradually increasing the shade of your teeth until you are happy with the results.

Firstly, your dentist will fully assess your clinical needs and make a recommendation based on your smile goals.

At Parrock Dental we offer Take-Home Teeth Whitening. A custom tray is made to fit comfortably in your mouth and a special gel is placed in the tray, which is then placed over the teeth and kept in place the amount of time suitable to your requirements.

Most patients are advised to wear their trays overnight until the desired result is achieved, but you can expect to see a big difference in your smile after two or three days.

A whiter, brighter smile

Whitening your teeth at home enables you to achieve a sparkling smile in comfort, with minimal trips to the dentist. It’s important to follow the plan set out by your dentist, for optimum results.

  • Always follow your dentist’s advice
  • Be consistent with the treatment
  • Avoid food and drink with excessive colour, like tea, coffee, red wine and curry

If you stick to a good diet, you can expect your teeth to retain their colour for anywhere between two and four years. You can maintain your result long-term by ‘topping up’ the whitening procedure and booking in regular visits with your dental hygienist.

Why should you see a dentist for teeth whitening?

While there are lots of over-the-counter teeth whitening options available, many contain potentially harmful chemicals, which can damage your teeth and gums.

By law, professional teeth whitening can only be carried out by a registered dental professional. The teeth whitening gels that we use at Parrock Dental are regulated to ensure patient safety while also being extremely effective.

Teeth whitening can cause sensitivity, which is normal, and is present only during the whitening process. Your dentist will give you some simple advice to reduce the sensitivity whilst you get your desired result.

We would advise against teeth whitening treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
