What are dental veneers?

If your front teeth are stained, chipped, or misaligned, dental veneers can achieve a life-like appearance with minimum tooth adjustment. A veneer is a porcelain facing on the front of your teeth that is a little like a false fingernail.

Securely bonded to the surface of your tooth, veneers improve the shape and appearance of your smile without damaging your natural teeth.

Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy, and because they are very thin and are held in place by a special strong bond, very little preparation of the tooth is needed. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to match the colour of your teeth, to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth or to lighten front teeth generally.

Dental veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when braces or aligners are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.

Same-day smiles with CEREC at Parrock Dental

Our dentists in Gravesend and Northfleet use CEREC technology so that you can be in and out in a single visit with your brand-new dental veneers. For our patients, this means fewer injections, less drilling, and less time out of your hectic schedule for dental care.

With CEREC at Parrock Dental your dental veneer treatment is completed in a single appointment, from start to finish.

The tooth is prepared by removing a tiny layer of enamel and a special powder is sprayed on before a picture is taken, with a 3D image of your teeth appearing on the computer screen. Your dentist then custom-designs your new CEREC precisely. The computer is linked wirelessly to a milling machine, which will then make your CEREC exactly to your dentistÎs design in approximately 20 minutes. The CEREC is then conditioned and bonded to your tooth. All this while you are comfortably entertained by our in-chair DVD system.

Dental veneers FAQs

AM I A SUITABLE CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL VENEERS?
Fitting over existing teeth, dental veneers can be used to conceal flaws such as gaps, crooked and chipped teeth, and stubborn stains. Importantly, your dentist will need to make permanent alterations to your enamel so the veneers fit properly. This means that veneers are not always a suitable option for every patient. If you have weak or damaged teeth your dentist may advise you to consider an alternative option.
HOW LONG WILL MY DENTAL VENEERS LAST?
Veneers are made of a very strong material that is securely bonded to your natural teeth, so they should last between 10 and 20 years, as long as you take care of them. Try to avoid particularly hard foods, always brush your teeth well and keep up your dental hygiene appointments.
CAN I HAVE MY TEETH WHITENED WITH DENTAL VENEERS?

Unfortunately professional teeth whitening gels only work with natural teeth and porcelain veneers wonÎt respond to them. If you do want whiter, brighter teeth we would recommend a teeth whitening treatment at Parrock Dental prior to your dental veneers treatment, so we can colour-match your new veneers to your natural smile!
